No, but Goodreader can.... $.99 in app store. Goodreader reads PDF's and several other formats... and most (NOT ALL) prefer it to iBooks for PDF's.....

GoodReader can not do a a text search in a PDF like iBooks. That is a neat feature of iBooks that I am increasingly using every day.

To send a text file to iBooks put the text file in Pages, make sure it is the way you want it, then export it to a PDF. Send PDF to iBooks.

You are right, the text search in iBooks is an excellent feature.....

If the OP has Pages your suggestion is great.... but to spend $10 for pages, and then the hassle of converting...etc...... is not so great... Goodreader = problem solved....
