AppleInsider reports that there have been conflicting news reports this week about exactly which company will be making the bulk of Apple’s new A9 chip.

First up we have Srini Sundarajan of Summit Research, who told investors that Samsung is currently top of the pile in Apple’s A9 supply chain, having had “the edge” in early testing.

As AppleInsider notes, if true, this would also tie in with previous reports that Samsung is to be Apple’s major supplier of the new chip.

However, a conflicting report from Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute’s director Chris Hung in the Taipei Times says that it is in fact current chip-maker of choice for Apple, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) that is set to continue in its role as Apple’s main supplier for the A9 CPU. Hung says that he has heard from his sources that it is in fact TSMC’s chip that has performed well, with higher yield rates in early tests, not Samsung’s chip.

Hung does concur, however, that Samsung will get some of the orders from Apple to make the chip, but TSMC will have the majority of the business.
