The Guardian brings news today that will be music to the ears of iPad owners outside of the UK who have been patiently waiting for the international release of the BBC’s very popular iPlayer iPad app. According to the Guardian, the app will be launched in Western Europe at the end of the summer. Unlike the UK version users will have to pay a subscription fee for the European version of the app, which the Guardian says will be approximately $10 (£6) per month. Unfortunately there is still no date set for the iPlayer to launch in the US, with Jana Bennett, president of worldwide networks and global iPlayer at BBC Worlwide, saying that the iPlayer iPad app’s European launch will be a pilot exercise, and that the worldwide rollout will be “careful and measuredâ€. Bennett also says that unlike the UK version, the international version of the app will not have to show catch-up programmes, and will therefore be able to feature collections of programmes and lots of back catalogue shows and series.
