Avid Studio or iMovie

Avid is much better and has a lot more features, iMovie is too basic for even the simplest tasks.

I am using iMovie. You have basic options to integrate film and photo elements. Cut the used elements. Rearrange them. Glue different parts together and use basic effects for the transition from one part to the next.
You can also integrate one Background-Sound-Track and afaik up to three sound effects which you can choose out of the given effects in iMovie.
Actually I am on holiday and I use iMovie to make a small film about that.
For me it is sufficient in its capabilities. The main cause why I choose iMovie was the FullHD option.
