AppleInsider reports that Apple is planning to build a new “global command” data center in Arizona. The new center will employ 150 full-time members of staff, following a $2 billion investment commitment from Apple.

Apple’s Arizona facility is best-known up to this point for its association with Apple’s failed sapphire plant partnership with GT Advanced Technologies, which ended with the latter going bankrupt

"This multi-billion dollar project is one of the largest investments we've ever made, and when completed it will add over 600 engineering and construction jobs to the more than one million jobs Apple has already created in the U.S.," said Apple. "Like all Apple data centers, it will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy, much of which will come from a new local solar farm."

Construction will not start on the facility until late 2016, and as you might expect from Apple, the facility will be very “green,” with the company pledging to build 70 megawatts of new solar power generation, which would be able to supply over 14,500 homes.

The positive news here IMO is that the jobs will be for USA citizens! Excellent. Let's hope Apple and others do more of this. :)
