MacStories reports today on a story in the Korea Times that says that Apple has started QA testing Samsung and LG LCDs for the iPad 3. According to sources, the LCDs are being tested in Apple’s lab in China, with both companies being asked to design screens with “better picture quality and density.†The Korea Times goes on to say that the iPad 3’s much improved display will support quad extended graphics (QXGA), with a display resolution of 2048x1536 pixels and a 4:3 aspect ratio for a full HD experience. According to the sources, who are “close to the talksâ€, the deals would see Samsung and LG secure a position as Apple’s biggest flat screen suppliers for some while to come. As MacStories notes, both Samsung and LG use the highly advanced low temperature polysilicon technology, which is able to fulfil Apple’s strict pixel density standards for the iPad 3 of more than 280 pixels per inch. That all sounds like very exciting stuff, but it’s a little surprising to hear that Samsung is one of the companies involved, with other recent reports suggesting that Apple is looking to distance itself from Samsung due to the two companies current legal wrangles. On the other hand though, it would seem that Samsung and LG are two of the only companies expert in the sort of LCD technology Apple is looking for at the moment, so maybe Apple doesn’t really have much of a choice in the matter.[/FONT]

Wasn't LG the supplier making the screens that had to be replaced for quality defects?
