App alerts

My iPad will not sound app alerts. All of the obvious settings are turned on but the alerts are not showing on the main screen or sounding an alert. Any suggestions?

Are you certain you have not accidentally activated the Mute function. It can be controlled either by the hard switch, next to the volume control, or by a soft switch - at the far left hand corner of the multi-task bar. Since the Mute function only controls system sounds - such as alerts - it's easy to have it activated and not really notice.
