John Paczkowski at All Things D reports today on a new projection from Sterne Agee analyst Shaw Wu, who says that he is “currently modeling 48 million iPad shipments for calendar 2012.†Wu says that this view is based on the recent prediction among industry experts that the iPad 3 will represent a “significant refreshâ€, with a quad-core processor, Siri voice recognition, improved cameras, a better display, and a longer-lasting battery. Wu adds that such major improvements will help to distinguish the iPad from its only real competition, Amazon’s Kindle Fire. And if you’re thinking that 48 million sounds like a huge number of iPads for Apple to sell in a year, well Wu actually calls his estimate “conservativeâ€, adding that it may prove to be too small a figure by the end of the year! And judging by Paczkowski’s comments on Wu’s predictions, he believes that the iPad 3 will definitely be launched either in February or March.
