Colin Comics - Adventures of iPad Admin Guy

Thanks, Colin! Everything was great. We miss you already. Yeah, I have to say, given the state of Internet access in Australia (swings between dial-up and DSL with some happy exceptions) the little Telstra portable wifi for AU$125 is really the ticket. We just turn it on whenever we need to go...

Colin Comics - Adventures of iPad Admin Guy

Colin and I both had bug, which I'd never heard of. A bug is a type of lobster, often called the Moreton Bay Bug or just Mud Bug (in Brisbane). but is actually the Bay Lobster or Flathead Lobster. They serve just the tail so it's not like a New England lobster where you get the big claws but I'd...

Colin Comics - Adventures of iPad Admin Guy

So I've been in Brisbane, Australia, and because of iPad Forums, my wife and I were treated to some major hospitality by one of the wonderful admin folks here, Colin, who I met in the early days of the forum. We had a great dinner at a Chinese restaurant downtown one night (among many other...

    Jail Break

The question was specific to JB'ing 3.2.2 so no, that approach isn't useful here (at least not currently using the PDF exploit that 3.2.2 prevents).

What Do You Sync With (Mac or PC)?

Technically, the Macintosh is a personal computer and thus, a PC, but in general most people equate PC with Microsoft Windows and Macs with OS X. I didn't want to get wordy, but the intro does state: iTunes runs under OS X on Macs and Windows on PCs so tell us which ... I think after years...

    Wi-Fi connectivity

On your iPad, in Settings -> Wi-Fi, click on the blue > to the right of the router's name, then click on Forget This Network then reselect it. At that point you should be able to input the new/changed password.

Is there a site that monitors app prices?

One thing I like about is if you mark an item as "I want it" you'll get an email when there's a price drop. (Obviously you have to set-up an account.)

    ITunes and IPad

I've been thinking about this issue as well. Since it's possible to start-up iTunes with any library (hold down Option key while starting iTunes & it'll ask you which library to open), then why couldn't you have a copy of your library on your iDisk, then when you need to, borrow a Mac, mount...

After Jailbreak... now what? I want to copy files to my iPad..

Nee-bee, why did you jail brake your iPad? You can install apps & copy files back and forth using iTunes. BTW, I just came across Padsync from a podcast I listen to. It sounds incredible. Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere yet. This may be more of what Nee-bee is looking for by JBing: A way...

That's creative! I don't think the Apple logo is where the wireless antenna is, though.

I just got off the phone with ATT

Well, if I buy an unlocked iPhone, can I put my 3G's microSIM card in and expect it to work or are there controls built-in that would say "You're not on an AT&T iPhone so I won't work." I mean, if I can get it to work, then I might as well wait to buy it in the EU and have an unlocked iPhone...

I just got off the phone with ATT

How 'bout this... Thanks for JB vs unlock distintion, glad I asked! Let me pose this question. If you were me and... You knew you would be in the UK (also France and The Netherlands) in just a few weeks and could presumably buy an iPhone 4 somewhere in Europe, and also You knew starting next...

I just got off the phone with ATT

Unlocking an iPhone 4? There's a certain synchronicity with your entry and I'm glad it had a good outcome. I, too, just got off the phone with AT&T because I'm trying to figure out if buying the iPhone 4 I currently have reserved is even worth it, because... Starting March of next year, I'm...

    Drop Box - stoopid question

The Dropbox applications that you install on your computer and on your iPad are just clients to let you keep everything in sync and also give you access to your files on the server "in the cloud." So, yes, you want to install the Dropbox app for your iPad and you can certainly do the same for...

Fancy An Old-Fashioned Typewriter Keyboard for Your iPad?

This is priceless. There must be a hell of a lot of sensors or relays to map the physical keys to the software. I can see why a completed kit would cost nearly five hundred dollars. That's a whole lot of kit.

    Mental Note

Two questions since you mentioned this app... I read its description and saw it can record audio while you're taking notes. In Microsoft Word's Notebook mode, you can record audio while you're taking notes, but more significantly, you can return to any point in your notes later and start the...

Avoiding Scams Thanks for posting this. The myPadMedia site has a veneer of legitimacy but it seemed far too good to be true. See Flash and Silverlight running on the iPad!

I think if this was actually the normal way to run and interact with flash, Apple wouldn't have a problem with it and likely wouldn't have banned it from their mobile devices. But like the article admitted, it eats up CPU on the server and that (plus crashes and memory leaks) makes it a poor...

    Multiple Headphones

But is it boosting the volume higher than what's already coming out of the iPad? In other words, if you set the volume level on the iPad at a certain level, plug in your apple headset at its maximum level, is it any louder than any other headset without a volume control (differences in...

I'm a little late getting back to this thread. I thought I should mention something that might not be obvious to everything (if it's obvious to you, then you're a smartypants)... Multiple Headphones

I think you'll be unhappy with using Bluetooth headsets for a long flight because (1) if the charge dies you don't have a headset, (2) airplane noise isn't filtered out, and (3) all it takes is a flight attendant in a bad mood (very likely) to spot your wireless headsets and tell you to put them...

    Favorite News App

I assume you're looking at news readers and not RSS readers (although there's overlap). I discovered Newsy for iPad which is an app for that combines various video sources on one story and report them in 2-3 minute clips. Not a new reader per se but an interesting way to get the news.

Is your source video got copy protection (encryption)? That can result in what you've described. Try MPEG Streamclip (also free) and look at Numblock's Video Converter Mega-Test (in this forum) to see optimal settings.

How do you clean the touch screen

BTW, for those of you who don't wear eye glasses, this might not be obvious: Never use tissue, "Kleenex," toilet paper, paper towels, or any other paper product, no matter how soft it might feel. All paper is made from wood. You knew that already. But there are fine wood chips (very small, but...

Spy Camera with Ipad and Iphone

Oh, then my other question to Foo would be: Why aren't you using Wi-Fi? (I'm not being sarcastic. Maybe you don't have a wireless router. I'm just curious why, if these same apps work over wifi, you wouldn't use that instead.) Wi-Fi would make your spying much more clandestine, I would think.

Plan on getting a Zagg Invisibleshield for your iPad?

I don't think anyone has mentioned Power Support. I just ordered their anti-glare screen protector that's supposed to be good for diminishing fingerprints also. I can live with a fair amount of glare and reflection but the fingerprints issue is tiring to deal with.
