Best note taking app for iPad

I guess your "wants" would depend upon what you use it for. I have Penultimate and, while it does many of the things I want to do, it falls short on the key ones - conversion of handwriting to text and the ability to edit on the fly, opening up a section so that you can insert comments, add...

Best note taking app for iPad

I agree with jsh1120 when it comes to paying for something that really does the job well. I wonder if the developers couldn't work a deal with iTunes to permit a short trial period. Even 7 days would be enough for me to test drive an app and decide if I like it or not.

Best note taking app for iPad

Good summary, Shoequeen. The one thing that a lot of people want, but which we may not have articulated well, is that we want to be able to go back later and insert more comments in the body of notes that we wrote earlier. Similar to adding annotations, but not quite the same thing. I would add...

Best note taking app for iPad

Definitely would not do for me, then. Being able to take handwritten notes, then convert them to text and email them is essential for me. Typingnotes in a meeting is far too slow, to say nothing of it being distracting to others.

You are right about Penultimate. I like the app and it is fine as long as I don't have to print it out. The one time that I did print it, I was appalled at what it looked like on paper. I would never use it again for anything that had to be printed and circulated around the office. Just looks...

Best note taking app for iPad

Thanks for the review of the Jot stylus. I had been waiting to see what you thought of it ever since you posted about having ordered it. I have a similar style of writing as you describe. I can imagine that I would annoy the heck out of people in meetings. After reading what you had to say...

Thanks for this tip. Gonna check that one out for myself.

Best note taking app for iPad

Kaiff, are you looking for an app for note taking or an app for annotating documents, such as PDF docs? SOme folks have suggested great note taking apps. But for true annotation, I like iAnnotate PDF. You can highlight, doodle, insert comments, overwrite text. It does the trick for me.

I use iAnnotate for this. I use it all the time for work.

Now there's a waste of a good iPad, if ever there was one. :)

Best note taking app for iPad

Notetaker HD does have a wristguard, as I recall. But it did not work very well for me and my style of writing. I no longer use it. It just sits there on my desktop. I prefer Penultimate, but I wanted an app for just the handwriting feature. If you want to be able to do other things in the app...

What do you think you'll use your iPad for?

Do you have Microsoft Office on it? What kind of work are you doing on the iPad? I do not do much work on it. I consider my iPad to be a personal item; it helps me keep personal stuff off my work laptop.

How are you getting your movies into iTunes? Or are you just downloading from the iTunes store? I find even their rentals are pretty pricey. I bought movies from the 2 for $9 clearance bin at WalMart. iTunes wanted $4.95 for the rental and $19.95 for the purchase of the very same movie.

What do you think you'll use your iPad for?

I figured it out on my owm. What I have is not a MiFi, it is an internet stick, which is what Rogers had before the MiFi. While the Internet stick has saved me a fortune in hotel internet connections and has allowed me to work in remote siteswhere there was no internet cnnection, I kinda wish I...

How do you hook your MiFi up to your iPad? The one I have requires a USB port, something that os sorely lacking on the iPad.

What do you think you'll use your iPad for?

It is not fast with the program that I use, either. But it is much better than dragging DVDs around with me when I travel. Plus the iPad has much better battery life than a laptop does. Not every airline has in-seat entertainment systems like Air Canada does or has plug ins for your laptop...

What do you think you'll use your iPad for?

There may be other ways, but I use iTunes. I bought a program to convert the movie downloads into a format compatible with iTunes. iTunes makes me mad, too, but I use it nonetheless.

What do you think you'll use your iPad for?

A lot of people do play games on it, but most people have a lot of other uses as well. Watching movies, reading books and magazines, surfing the net, getting email. I have a calculator app and some inventory tracking apps on mine. I rarely play games on it. I also use it for taking notes in...

Evelyn, that was a great rundown on what you use the iPad for. You are making good use of the technology. And having been a Physics najor in my college career, I know what you meant about the price and heft of a science textbook. Oh, if only we had iPad back in the day. :) I use my iPad for...

What do you think you'll use your iPad for?

I did not realize that you could not get Skype on the original iPad. I use it extensively on my laptop for work, and never even thought to try it on my iPad. Interesting. I wonder why it is not available for the original iPad? I am sure there must be a thread on that - I'll search it when I have...

Have you set up your email yet? I am thinking I might need to get a GMail account, since the iPad and my ISP do not play well together. It does work well for movies when travelling, although mine does not have the stand/cover that the iPad2 has. I ordered a case that converts to a stand and I...

Best note taking app for iPad

Are you looking to enter algebra equations? Calculus? Scientific equations? I have not tried this one, but I did read about "Equation". Here is a link to another one that I read about. I seems like it might require a bit of set up, but might be more what you want. Using LaTeXiT to display...

Best note taking app for iPad

Not a problem. One of these days, I will take another stab at Notetaker HD and see if I can the hang of it better. On the YouTube video that I watched recently, it certainly looks like it will do a lot of things that I would use. But I can't get past the problem with my handwriting in that app...

Best note taking app for iPad

I agree with you about Penultimate. I do use a stylus on it. I have a Targus and a Pogo Sketch. I have a couple others on order. For notetaking, Penultimate does seem to handle my style of handwriting better than the others. And after reading your explanation, I can begin to see why that is. I...

Best note taking app for iPad

Chowdown I was not "making a claim". I was simply stating my experience with Notetaker HD. I own 3 different stylus and it does not read any of them particularly well. I constantly have to go back over my writing to fill in the places that did not 'ink'. In addition, as I said before, if I write...

Best note taking app for iPad

Note taker HD was one of the first apps I bought. I do not use it much because it works much better if you use a finger than it does with a stylus. You have to write pretty big, and even with the wrist guard turned on, I still got lots of marks all over the 'paper'. I find Penultimate the...

disable auto fill or auto-complete for all apps

It also disabled spell check when I did it. Also is there a way to cursor back to the place where an error is located and correct it? Even when I make the font larger and use a stylus, the cursor will position itself at the end of a word and want you to delete the entire word, not just the...

Best note taking app for iPad

Wow! You guys have all been great. You have put forth a lot of options for me to try. I have quickly arrived at the same conclusion as Shansuprophecy about there being no one note-taking app for all my needs. I am not going to give up on the handwriting apps. I still like taking notes by hand...

What do you think you'll use your iPad for?

Awais261, what app do you use for notetaking? I have downloaded a couple more apps since I last posted on the forum, but still have not found anything nearly as functional as on a tablet PC. Some of my apps have a 'wristguard' feature. But even with wrist guard on, I find that I get tons of...

    Download problems

Thanks for this tip, littlebuddha. It fixed the problem for me, as well. I had tried several other tips that I found online before I saw yours. It was the one that did the trick. I left my Kaspersky anti-virus minimized in the tray so that I would remember to turn it back on as soon as the...

What do you think you'll use your iPad for?

You might be better off with a true tablet computer for business. I loved all of the tablets I had over the years. But I do use my iPad for note taking - still not as good for even that as a true tablet. I use the iPad for travel - videos, reading, games to amuse myself. I do LOVE the Daily...
