Aussie using iPad in US and Canada - advice please

Rogers used to be a subsidiary of AT&T but it isn't anymore.

Canadian iPad 3g in the US?

As far as I know, only AT&T has a data plan for iPads (at least, for GSM ones). American Express credit cards work; I couldn't get a Canadian MasterCard to work.

    IPad 1 -> IPad 2 Sim card?

Micro-, actually. :) The common SIM cards today are mini-SIMs. Full-sized SIMs are the size of a credit card. (The card that a SIM card comes in is designed to fit really old devices that take the original full-sized SIM, but I doubt too many are in use anymore.)

Using a UK iPad in the US - Compatability

I activated my Canadian iPad in Buffalo, NY last November without issue. It's possible you'll need to download the carrier settings, so you may want your laptop handy when youa ctivate. The real problem is that AT&T won't take most foreign credit cards for their iPad service. I was able to...

    Running Battery to Zero

Lithium batteries have longer lives if they're topped up regularly and not drained completely. I've got lithiums that are five years old that still work reasonably well because I've treated them this way. Your scale might get inaccurate if you do this a lot, but that's not that important in my...

Canadian (Rogers) iPad 3G travelling to UK

Orange might be an option. They let me register my Canadian credit card with my prepaid voice account (6p/minute to call Canada on their Camel prepaid SIM). They'll be the ones I ask the next time I go to the UK.

    Driving through Mexico

For the sake of the archive, I'd like to comment that you're quite correct. Telus, Bell and Rogers all sell official iPad plans, and for subscribers based in Saskatchewan, SaskTel has a "tablet plan" that doesn't mention the iPad but is clearly designed for it and for future similar machines...

    At&t

AT&T has no service in Mexico. It might roam on a Mexican provider, but you'll have to buy one of those expensive roaming packages from AT&T to use it... and I think you have to buy the package before you go.

Any Roger's customers have trouble with 3G today?

I used my iPad this evening (in Regina, Saskatchewan) and had no difficulties. I didn't specifically look to see if I had 3G or 2G but performance was good, so I doubt it was EDGE.

iOS 4.2 latest update release news

You're 8 hours closer to 6 pm though. No extra waiting required! By the way the US has four time zones (and Canada has six) so there is no such thing as "US time". (In fact I'm understating US time zones because I'm not counting Alaska and Hawaii, which have their own zones.)

    verizon vs ATT

It's hard to answer that question. It depends on what you do with your iPad. I web surf, I play the occasional game, I use an ebook reader client and I read email on it from time to time. However, during the week I have a desktop at my desk with wired connectivity, at home I have wired...

iPad shows AT&T what is wrong with 3G

T-Mobile US will give you a discount if you don't take a subsidized phone - perhaps other carriers will move to this if T-Mobile finds it popular.

    verizon vs ATT

I'm in Canada and have a 250 MB data plan with Rogers, and I have yet to exhaust it. I simply use WiFi whenever I can. I'd personally prefer to have a single device that could get online rather than needing a second device (like the Verizon solution requires). One other advantage is that I...

    What is AT&T E?

EDGE - which is a 2.5G technology. Not all areas have 3G coverage, and even if an area does, if it is excessively busy sometimes 2G service has a stronger signal. It is significantly slower than any 3G (it can approach 3G UMTS speeds but is much slower than 3G HSPA), but is much faster than 2G...

    iPad & Kindle Sync

You have to leave the radio turned on on your Kindle for it to work in both directions. I use the Kindle app on both iPhone 4 and iPad 3G, plus a Kindle 3, and it works seamlessly no matter what device I use.
