I figured it out. In advanced mail settings my trash folder was selected as trash on my iPad. I changed it to the trash folder set up through my imap account

When I try to delete an email from my iPad it states "the message could not be moved to the mailbox trash". I receive the same error regardless if I use the trash can icon or use the edit command to delete. My account is setup as imap configuration. Any suggestions?
