If you really didn't drop, I wouldn't rest until you have closure. You could try contacting Apple by phone or even the BBB or Consumer Product Safety Commission if need be. In the end, the consumer is always right if there is a legitimate case(usually :p ).

Check out the serial number online once you buy it. I bought a used ipad 3 off of CL earlier this week and checked out the S/N online and it appears I'm covered until august of next year (original owner registered proof of purchase).
