I've just solved it — Settings — iTunes & App stores — click on Apple ID and sign out. Go back to App Store and hey presto you're in the UK store.

I'm currently stuck in the U.S. App Store and cannot download apps because my account is not valid there. A pop-up is telling me to switch to the U.K. Store before purchasing. How do I switch to the U.K. store?
