    First, verify wifi security, I believe the iPad defaults to WPA2. Second, make sure that the router firmware is up to date.

    If you google ios5 wifi issues you'll find lots of response. It looks to be buggy. I can't tether my iPhone to my iPad through wifi for nothing. Always have to use bluetooth and that is with my wifes iPhone as well. Try doing a network reset and if that doesn't work and full reboot and see...

    I know that I cannot hotspot my iPhone 4s and iPad2 through wifi worth crap! Using Bluetooth works all of the time,,, same issue with my wifes iPhone 4,,, all running iOS 5.0.1

    Using iPhone for ipad2hotspot

    Just use bluetooth for the hotspot. You need to pair the two devices first, then when you turn on the hotspot, choose to turn on bluetooth as well. It is suppose to work with wifi as well, but I have had no luck with this. It seams my 4S is crappy at acting like a router strickly over wifi.

    Hotspotting with WIFI still sucks,,, using bluetooth almost exclusively now.
