Help Please! When I try to shut off my IPad, It tries to shut down, but is now in limbo with that little circle in the middle of the screen going round and round, for 8 hours now. What can I do? Thank you

Hi All, I am a 60 year young mother of five, and Grandmother of 6. I Love my IPad, which a constant source of amusement to my grandkids. I think they would prefer that I give it to them. LOL,(Never). I hope to get some helpful hints here on my IPad, and learn a few things. Thank You
