Although I had read about users connecting their midi keyboard to the ipad via the usb camera kit, it was quite a surprise that it worked as well as it did with my my Yamaha portable grand; albeit midi input only. Midi sustain and note velocity was all captured in real time into garageband using the garageband instruments resulting in a 3 track (freestyle) composition.

Porting iPad Garageband to Mac
With garageband on the iPad it inspired the usage of garageband on the Mac. After starting this freestyle playing on the iPad, the song was then saved to itunes in garageband format and work continued on the Mac; adding 4 more tracks to the original song.

I'm trying to exercise restraint over garageband, but it's just so tempting.
