    Austrian Sights

There are places near me worth a visit. Perhaps I can show a few of them in this thread.

On a hot day like yesterday, you'll rarely find people in an open air village museum. A good opportunity to take pictures, so I decided to go to Mönchhof, a few km from my village. The museum there shows old buildings, furniture, professions from 1890 - 1960.

First of all, you'll have to look for it, in case you weren't there before. It's "hidden" near the train station.
    Here's the entrance:

The museum has a website where a "map" can be downloaded, in English as well.
Just to show it's location (not from the website):

    Maps
The buildings there were mostly made by the founder himself, he also collected many of the things exhibited there.
As soon as you enter the museum, this will catch your eye:

A toll house with barrier next to an old Trabant. This should remind of 1989 (see number on car), when many people left the former GDR and crossed the Austrian border next to Klingenbach.

    There's an old cinema

On rare occasions, old movies are shown. In winter, this place is used as stage.

    Thank you, leelai!

It certainly is. I took quite a few pictures there. I'll be posting some of them later.

I wish that was a few kilometers from my house. Would love to have a museum to visit on my walk. I only have a Village Mall and a University that is about 2 miles from my house that I can visit!

Nice pics! Wonderful weather you had!

    Thank you!

It's too far to walk there (~ 18 km), I went by car.

The museum looks interesting. It's amazing what one person can do. Are the museum collections being developed by others?

    Thanks for sharing Johanna.

Brought to you from my super iPad3 - used as from 03/10/12

    Thank you, Richard!

I can't answer your question exactly. I know that at a time students from the university (Vienna) catalogued the items there, that was some years ago; this museum is always changing. The founder himself is maintining it mostly and always looking for new things to add, afaik.

Viticulture is common here, many things you'll find in the museum are related to that topic.

There's a vineyard in the museum.

The buildings there were originally built somewhere else and rebuilt by the founder in the museum.

Most interesting for a teacher: an old school

This is just a small part of the buildings (more than 30) and things to see there. It's allowed to enter most of the houses.
