For those of you with cellular iPads and cramped data plans, be sure to go to Settings > Celular Data and turn off Wi-Fi Assist. It is at the very bottom of the celular settings page.

This feature will let your iPad use cellular data when your wi-fi signal is weak or unreliable, and could cause unexpected usage of your data plan.

For some reason it appears to be on by default. At least it was on my iPad.

Ceated using slideover in Safari while reading a review in iBooks. How cool is that?

Good tip... Boy, they sure buried that option. You have to scroll a long way to find it, especially if you have a lot of apps.

It should have been put at the top of the 'Cellular Data' screen under the other options, (Enable LTE, Data Roaming etc).

Oh well.... I never come close to using all my data for the month, so I left it on.

Thanks for letting us know. I'm sure it will cut down on unplanned data usage.

I suppose Apple's reasoning for having this feature turned on by default is to lessen the chances of dropped internet connectivity. That could be frustrating if it happened in the middle of something you were working on.

Edit: the feature also apears on iPhones. I've now turned it off until I need it.
