Why no instant messaging??

    I assume it is something with the OS but will this change with the new update this fall??

    Check the App Store. You can get the AOL IM client among others. Yes, it's limited when the app has to stay open to receive IMs, and yes, that might change with OS4.

    If you use Windows Live Messenger, Microsoft just released their free iPad/iPhone app last week.

    I also use IM+ aswell and works perfect and it's free in the app store.

    Most IM clients also have push notifications so you'll know when you get a message even when the app is closed
