Which Apps for a novice user?

Got my first Apple product a few days ago(iPod not couting) so im very new to this with apps. So though a few of you guys out thèrese could recommend a few good ones for me. So far ive download angry birds,tapatalk and a facebook app. But what more to get?
Im into sports and betting so the iPad will be spent alot in that area, but is there any apps i must have?

Great will get that, anything else that i should get it doesnt matter if it cost anything.

Sorry to hear about the disappearance but I do appreciate your recommendations for me. I will check all of them out tonight as well. I know a few of them such as Ibooks and Skype but since I dont know anybody using Skype then there is no point having that
