This location / image is part of an epic fictional story told decades ago.

It's relevant today, because a person who contributed greatly to the telling of the story, passed away this week.
The photograph accompanied the individual's obituary.

Please provide the following information to win the challenge.

    1. Where is this real world location of the structure in the image? (country)
    2. What is the name of the story?
    3. Who's obituary?

Well then - in hockey parlance I believe you have a "hat trick." :)

    The challenge moves west.

Where would you find this? What is it called? Who built it?

Rome would be correct. All you need now, is it's identity and who built it.
