What a delightful back yard Diane! Love those ferns there

Hey, thanks Andrew! I'm going to take a walking tour of my backyard and then post it ( if I can figure out how! ) I saw a hummingbird sitting on the clothesline this morning. What a delight. It was so tiny I wasn't sure what it was until it flew off to eat from the feeder! They dive and buzz bomb me when I go out to the shed to get chicken feed! .

Sorry about the fuzzy picture. The "helicopter " maple seeds are another interesting sight right now - and are appreciated by the new squirrels here.
He's just so cute! I'd love to see them in my yard, we have possums and they aren't around during day light hours, only at night when I hear them jumping between our trees.
Do your possums destroy your bird feeders? Gnaw on anything made of wood? Dig holes in your yard, burying seeds of plants you'd rather not have? Infest your attic? Carry diseases? Shred your window screens, just because they can? Steal baby birds from the nest? Squirrels are cute, but tirelessly, mindlessly destructive. They are rats with furry tails.
I did wonder if they were a problem.....anywhere I've seen them they have been in plague proportions. For us, being animal lovers, we just find them so very cute.
Our possums do come with their problems, but not as much as your squirrels do from the sound of it. We have had possums living in our roof also, that was a rather time consuming task to get them out of there especially when they only come out at night. They are protected here also....we had to set traps each night and collect them in the mornings, and then repeat the next night for nights on end. We had quite a collection of possums at one point before we let them go. I then made possum boxes myself and anchored them in our trees so they had somewhere to live besides our roof. Possums stay in the same area so we couldn't take them elsewhere.
We have an indoor garden and were surprised to find one nestled up high in a palm tree there one night.....we just left the door open for a while and out he went, that was after we stuck apples on sticks to feed him first though!
And I was even awoken one night with one running across my pillow above my head, I thought it was my cat, now that was a surprise to find it was a possum.....he'd come down our chimney! He'd made quite a mess with all the soot he brought with him.....So back up to seal the chimney......
Yes, possums are a problem at times but unlike how you feel about your squirrels, I love having our possums, but then they don't sound at all like your squirrels and the problems they bring! Now that would be very annoying!
This young brown thrasher wanted his parent to come back.
Bee balm is so pretty - and it attracts hummingbirds too.
I finally managed to finish mulching my front yard. Wow...I am so late, but oh well. Still looks good. Here is one I took a few months ago!
I have some coneflowers, too. Yours seem to be doing better than mine - or mine are just late bloomers.
I wish I'd see more butterflies in our area.
