Looks like you have to rake at both ends of winter, Richard. It's worth it, though, to have a yard as nice as yours.

Oh my, that's quite a lot of flowers just there. Lots of raking for you! ;)

We've given up with the raking! We brush the flowers from the paths and decking just before mowing the lawn. :)

Now 2 rose-breasted grosbeaks are in my yard.

And I saw this critter on my park walk. I think it is a groundhog.

Edited to switch the image which didn't show as thumbnail.

Great pic of that squirrel, Iriana! The squirrel looks like he is doing a balancing act in the tree stump! :)

Lots and lots of flowers falling from the copper beech.

The flowers will continue falling for a couple of weeks.

All of our flowering trees here are also in bloom and beginning to drop with the windfall! I don't even bother about the petals...I'll let nature blow it away! :)

I just love to watch these squirrels in action! They are just too funny to watch trying to jump from one obstacle to another for a treat!!

Love that Grosbeak, Czevski!! It has just beautiful markings!

And what critter is that...a ground hog?

Yes, the trees are birch. I don't know if there care different kinds or it was marketing, but we planted a canoe birch clump there about 35 years ago. We had to nurse it through the various birch diseases that devastated many birches, but it looks great now.

We have had several of our birch trees go down. It's such a shame, because these trees are really beautiful to see. Several of our neighbors down the street have revived their trees and so far so good! We also have several birch trees on our property up North...and those seem to be making a comeback! :)

Luckily silver birch trees grow quite quickly. Will you be replanting?

No probably not that type of tree anymore. It seems too fragile. We had 4 of them in our front yard alone and it was a lot of work to maintain.

If any tree....I'd love to have a purple flowering tree planted in my front my yard. They are so pretty to look at it with the tiny flowers on the branches...they look like they glow in the dark because they are so bright. If not that, I would love a Japanese Maple tree...although there are tons of varieties to pick from with that!

We have one out front of the house, we call it Alby . Wet, I know, something to do with its botanic name. For some reason we tend to give names to things around the house. My wife drives a Toyota Corolla. Calls him Rolly;) To get back onto topic. Alby is only two years old and thankfully looks quite healthy.
Just went out to take a picture of our young silver birch with the iPad. Not a good photo as I could hardly see the tree with the reflection on the iPad screen

Another week left of Autumn here and his leaves are just starting to turn. Last year was a beautiful yellow all over.

Great pic of Alby, Andrew! It sure does look healthy and very well taken care of! :)

Hard to believe that Autumn is almost over and winter is coming your way there...we haven't even reached summer yet!

I like your wife's thinking here.....we called our Ford explorer Cookie, for Captain Cook who was an explorer.....my hubby's car which was a black SS wagon was called the hearse for obvious reasons. Lots of things in our yard have their own names! ;)
