That would scare me at night. Better have it checked at the Apple store before it becomes worse.

Hmmm, have you tried closing all the apps as in force quit? There might be an app running in the background.

The first time I heard it was in the middle of the night. Our bedroom is a loft style design, so we can look down to see the next floor. When I heard it go off, it made me jump a little. Had no idea what that was until I heard it again later in the day!! Too funny!
