Watching movies directly from SDHC card reader?

Just bought an iPad 2 - mainly because we are about to go travelling and we'd like to watch some movies on the flights.

I've loaded some mp4 movies on to my SDHC cards.

I bought a camera connection kit (SDHC and USB) so I could watch the movies either straight off the SDHC card or copy them on the the iPad then delete them afterwards.

Is this possible?
Don't want to load all the movies on the iPad via iTunes if possible.

It sounds like you have both pieces of equipment, so why not just try it?

Tried it - doesn't work with standard apple supplied software. Finds pictures on the sdhc card easily enough.

Do I need an app? Does one exist?
