Volkswagen America has announced that its Car-Net app will be coming to the Apple Watch and will allow drivers to remotely interact with their cars using it. The Car-Net platform comes with such features like automatic crash emergency response notifications, remote vehicle access and "health updates" on wearing parts like brake pads.
At the moment, Car-Net is available on "select trims of 2014 and later Beetle, CC, Eos, Jetta, Passat and Tiguan models and on all trims of 2015 and later Golf, Golf GTI, Golf R, Golf SportWagen and e-Golf models." So, if you're looking to buy one of these cars and you already own an Apple Watch or will get one in the future, you'll be able to get information regarding your car right on your wrist.
A Volkswagen exec said the following:
"These high-tech features, available through the Car-Net app for Apple Watch, are paving the way to Volkswagen’s future of connected vehicles. As a part of Volkswagen’s Digital Vehicle Management Platform, this was a truly collaborative effort between our Technical Development and Group IT teams.”
Furthermore, by using the Volkswagen Apple Watch app, drivers will be able to to check fuel on gasoline and TDI Clean Diesel engines and even the charge on the all-electric e-Golf.
