Other than a 13amp to 2-pin adapter, what else is necessary for using iPad on UK's 220v? Presumably a step=down transformer?

No transformer required, as long as you have all the proper Apple plugs and the adaptor you are good to go.

You could just get the Apple power pack travel adapter set.. You wouldn't need a universal adapter then. The Apple power pack gives a constant DC current where ever its used.

I bought my iPad in Mexico. I use the standard Apple charger that came with it and just bought a new 3 pin plug bit from eBay! I live in the UK by the way.
