Updated Apps Won't Open - Help!

Hello everyone! I hope someone here can help me. I have an iPad 1. Yesterday I saw that 9 apps needed updating so I updated all of them. As that was happening, I also deleted several apps that I didn't need or want anymore. Then I rearranged and organized the icons. After the updates, none of the apps that were updated will open. I tap them, the screen flashes and then nothing. It's only the ones that were updated; the others are fine. I've searched online but can't find an answer. I've rebooted several times. I connected to my PC and synced it with iTunes to create a backup. Here's a strange thing: those same 9 apps aren't showing up in iTunes. I've read that I could "Reset All Settings" but that requires a 4 digit code that I've forgotten. I've tried 8 different codes and read that after 10 tries, the iPad will go back to factory settings and I could lose stuff. I hope someone can help me! Thanks!

I finally got the apps to open by uninstalling and reinstalling them. Two of them were "build a village" type of games. One of them still had all of the stuff I'd built; one didn't. Words with Friends kept the games I had going so that was good. Anyway, so that's how I got them to open again.
