Typing security code

I created a security code that needs to be entered in order to start my iPad. I have noticed that each letter/number that is typed for the code is visible on the screen for a second or two before it turns to a dot. I do not want the letters/numbers to appear on the screen at all. Is there a way to have the letters/numbers automatically appear as a dot when they are entered?

This is a feature that allows you to verify that you did not make a typing mistake. The short duration is not a security threat unless you allow someone to look over your shoulder. I do not see any way they would change this feature.

This feature works with any password typed on the iPad,iPhone and iPod,not just the one used to unlock the device.

On my iPad I only see dots, never numbers. Same on my 4S.

Thanks for your response. So, there is no way to change this feature so that the dot is the only thing that appears? Sometimes I am in meetings where people sit really close together. Thus, although the letter/ number appears very briefly, it is still visible long enough for someone to see the passcode.

If you go to Settings/General/Passcode Lock you can turn off Simple Passcode. You can then set up a much longer alphanumeric Passcode. This might help somewhat.

Considering that you are tapping the passcode on a large easy to see keypad, the tiny letters that appear are really the smaller (pun intended) threat when it comes to shoulder surfers.

As Kevin said, a full password would help somewhat, if you use a long enough one that people will have a hard time remembering the sequence.

And in the modern world, it is not socially rude to say to say 'excuse me, I need to enter my password' and turn away or guard the screen from view; say like placing it in your lap.

Thanks. I created a longer, more complex code.

Having the simple (4-digit) passcode (pin) to unlock my iPad I do not see the numbers I actually type in displayed on the screen (inside the fields) - am I doing something wrong???
Passwords in appstore and on websites (etc) are displayed for a short time, but not during unlocking....
however, it is pretty easy to "shoulder" the pin, and fingerprints on screen are pretty easy to de-cipher. It os recommended (for the print-issue) to change rotation from time to time... ;)

Other then what I read here, I don't know much about the unlock pass codes, and haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it. I rarely use my iPad in public and don't keep any sensitive data on it, so I don't bother with a lock code.

Just use your common sense. And if you are worried about finger print giveaways, wipe the screen off now and then. ;)
