Trying to get ios 5 on ipad 2

Need some step by step directions....I started the backup and had to keep going back because it was not getting all my apps. It still says I have not copied everything. When I start again it says I am done...I am not a geek so I need some really good instructions...maybe even pics...lol please somebody help cause I really want to upgrade...but I am nervous I will make a mistake and loose my photos

In iTunes right pane window, it reads Summary, Info, Apps, Tones........
Click Apps.
Sync Apps should be checked.
All Apps should be checked.
At the bottom, it reads Automatically sync new apps. Make sure it is checked.
Lastly, sync.
