Transfering Music Question

My hard drive on my PC had to be reformatted and now I want to transfer my music from my I Pad 2 to my PC and ultimately Itunes so I can continue to sync my music safely and not be erased accidently.

Is there a free third party software that I can use to do this?

I don't think this is possible. When you try to resynchronise it will remove all your music. It might be worth calling the toll-free Apple Support line about this problem as they might be able to authorise you to download the music again.
