Total freeze during app updates

My iPad 4 completely freezes when downloading app updates. To be clear, I am not referring to app updates themselves freezing but the whole iPad freezing and not being responsive to touch or even the Home or Power physical buttons. Very annoying and frustrating. I have no issues with my wireless connection. Everything always works fine except when downloading app updates. Any ideas?

Is your iPad up to date? The latest software version is iOS 8.1.2. In case you haven't done so yet, update it and reset it again afterwards.

If this doesn't help, restore it using iTunes (computer). Make sure iTunes is up to date, backup your iPad, then restore it.
