Is there a way to keep the iPad screen from timing out so quickly?

No problem.

Open up the iPad's native 'Settings' app, select 'General' from the left-hand side menu, then choose 'Autolock' from the right-hand side and set the time-out to whatever you want - from a couple of minutes to 'never'

'Never' might seem an attractive option but be careful because, if you choose that option and you accidentally leave your iPad switched on, the battery could run down (say overnight)

Oh - I nearly forgot......

Good to hear from you. You’ll find a whole bunch of iPad enthusiasts in this Forum who are only too willing to help other iPad owners and to hear of their experiences. Don’t be afraid to post any questions you may have or use the ‘Search’ button near the top of the Forum web page. I usually find I discover one new interesting and useful piece of information about my iPad every day - and often not even what I was looking for!!

Hope to hear from you soon with your thoughts about the iPad.

Have fun and enjoy your iPad

If you don’t already have it you can download a copy of the iPad manual for free from

Hi Tim, thanks for the quick reply and the instructions. I have reset the auto-lock as advised. I love my iPad. I do have other questions so am also grateful for the iPad Forum. Am disappointed though as I didn't know of the release of the iPad 2 and I just bought my ipad 3 weeks ago and would most likely have waited if I'd know.

Check to see if you could return your iPad? Some Forum members who were in a similar situation have managed to return their iPads to the Apple store.
