Hello Folks,

Sr. Citizen now, so will blame my ignorance with this
"kinda stuff" on old age.

Have an iPad 3rd Gen.

Recently have been getting, every 30 seconds or so, a message that
"This accessory may not be supported"

As best I can determine, it is only when the unit is plugged into the wall charger. But I may be wrong about this.

The unit does Not appear to be charging, per the icon info., when plugged in.

So, I am assuming that it is a defective cable.
(I did clean the unit connector, and the cable end connector, with
Alcohol and a very small brush tip. No change.)

Is this bad-cable a good assumption ? If not, other possibilities.
Does their cable go bad often ?

If I go for a new cable, would you suggest that I only get the Apple replacement one at their ridiculous cost ? Why ?

Amazon seems to offer several like this one for only $ 8.00
"Apple 30-pin connector to USB Type A cable
Compatible with iPhone 3G/3Gs/4/4Gs, iPad 1/2/3, iPod nano 5th/6th
generations and iPod Touch 3rd/4th generations.

AmazonBasics 3.2 feet 1.0 Meter USB Charging/Sync Cable for Apple
iPod, iPhone, and iPad"

Seems to say that it is (also) for the iPad /3

Should I get this one from Amazon ?
Think it does sound like a cable problem ?

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

When you get this message when trying to charge your iPad, it supposedly means that you use a third party cable which will not charge your iPad. When you intend to buy a new cable, make sure that you get a supported (Apple certified) cable.

I hope this thread will be helpful as well: http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-3-forum/117946-ipad-3-ios7-04-a.html
