Stylus for note taking?

Just downloaded Penultimate which seems to do what I want, but what about a stylus? I thought I could just use a ball pen with the nib retracted or any old plastic thing - Doooohhh!!!! Nothing works except my finger so is there a special kind of stylus needed or will any proper tablet stylus work?

The Pogo Sketch is one of the better stylus models, have one myself. The issue is the stylus needs to conduct the small electical current from you body To the screen and have a large enough area to trigger the sensors. Otherwise believe it just filters it out as noise.
