Just bought an ipad2, I really can't just turn this thing on and use it? I just put my MacBook in the trash, and have nothing to sync it with. And suggestions?

Good to hear from you. You’ll find a whole bunch of iPad enthusiasts in this Forum who are only too willing to help other iPad owners and to hear of their experiences. Don’t be afraid to post any questions you may have or use the ‘Search’ button near the top of the Forum web page. I usually find I discover one new interesting and useful piece of information about my iPad every day - and often not even what I was looking for!!

The iPad absolutely has to be sync'd with a PC or Mac to begin with; there is no way around this. If you don't have access to either then any Apple Shop will do this for you in a couple of minutes. But you might want to consider how you're going to keep backups of your iPad if you've disposed of your Mac.

If you have an Apple store near you, they will activate it for you. Otherwise you may have to borrow a friends computer, load iTunes and activate it that way.
