I have a problem with the volume for the general workings of the iPad. It stopped. ITunes, videos and other such things from the net I can hear- the volume control is great, but there's nothing coming from the settings on the iPad. No clicks from typing mode, or alerts. All gone since iso6. Help?

Hi MBC - well, my first suggestion would have been to check the setting of the 'Side Switch' to make sure that it is not on mute, but since you seem to be getting some sound from the iPad, a 'Restart' and if not successful a 'Reset' of the device may be the first recommendation (directions below if not familiar w/ the maneuvers) - good luck and let us know if this corrects the problem - Dave :)

BTW - welcome to the forum!

When an app (or several) are misbehaving, I usually go through the following steps:

1. Force Close - open the multi-tasking bar (double tap the 'home buttom' or use multi-gesturing and swipe up); press & hold an app until all begin to 'jiggle'; find the offending app(s) and press the 'red circle w/ minus sign' - return to the home screen & try again.

2. Restart - press & hold the 'Sleep/Awake' (a.k.a. power) button until a red slider appears (may take a few seconds) - move the slider to turn off the iPad; then press & hold the same button until the Apple logo appears - wait for a restart.

3. Reset - press & hold the 'Power' and 'Home' buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears - this may take a longer time, so have patience; the iPad will 're-boot' - NOTE that none of these maneuvers will alter your apps, files, or settings.

Thanks for the great info, it helps someone like me with less tablet experience than most. However, it didn't work. I had someone double check my efforts and still no success. If anything else comes to mind please pass it along. Thanks again!

Hi mbc, other than the above excellent suggestions, the only other info I can think of is, (sorry if you've tried it):
Double press the home button and swipe the task bar to the right. Is the sound icon on or does it have a bar through it to close the sound?

Sorry about this continual problem - should have been corrected; I know that you likely have done this a dozen times, but are the sound features set correctly in Settings - below is a screen capture from my iPad showing my sound settings.

I'm assuming that the iPad has not been dropped or damaged in any fashion? Also, iOS 7 is about to be released - might correct the situation if not a hardware issue which would require a visit to the Apple store or an authorized Apple shop - Dave :)

Yep, I've checked things there too. Nope, no dropping or damage. I do hope the update will help. Thanks for your help. This is not the only problem, just the most recent. The larger pain has been loosing my "note" documentation. All my notes were just poof, went away. They would still be contained in the site established to house them...yahoo, but they would never be able to be pulled back to the iPad. Lost forever, after a third time since the purchase, I changed the site to google but have only a few notes. I purchased the ipad the month it came out. The first times it happened, the apple staff spent 2.5 hours on the phone with me trying to recover them and readjusting the settings. Bad mojo. We are a apple household but lately I'm thinking of other options for the future.
