So confused on updating my ipad to ios 5

I have seen the things on the internet...but I can't find the area to download or update my ipad on the ipad itself

I love my ipad but can use certain things now because apparently it needs to be updated.

I am NOT tech savy and need assistance.

Can someone help me?

To update to ios5 you need to go via itunes. When you've updated you can do further ios updates via the ipad itself.

Hi Michelle,

You can't do an over-the-air update from your iPad because you don't already have iOS 5.
You must update through your iTunes account via PC or Mac.

Unless your iPad is already on iOS 5 or higher, you won't find any option to upgrade on the iPad itself. You have to connect you iPad to your computer and use iTunes to do the update. Follow method 2 in the Admiral's link to update your iOS.

You can no longer update to iOS 5. You can only update to iOS 6.

As everyone has mentioned, you can only update your IOS via your iPad if you're on ios5 or above to start with

What people are trying to say here is that you'll need to plug your iPad into your computer’s USB port to let iTunes update it. If you have an iPad1, you won't be able to update to iOS6. Dunno if it would offer you iOS5 instead. Owners of iPad2 or iPad3 cannot get iOS5, and can only update to iOS6.

If you have an iPad 1 on iOS 4.x, you can indeed still update to iOS 5.1.1, as Apple is still signing iOS 5.1.1 for the iPad 1.
