Significant interruptions with bluetooth

I am transmitting a signal from the iPad 1 to Monster HD speaker. When the iPad is active - no problem. When it "sleeps" the signal becomes intermittent. But if I have a headphone plugged in in the same condition, the signal is never interrupted. Is there a fix?

It appears that the problem may be related to installation and settings on Skype. This occurred (interuptions) shortly after I put Skype on the iPad. This afternoon I changed the Skype settings so that Skype turns off immediately when I put the IPad in the sleep mode. Interruptions stopped occurring.
