Side button

My side button won't activate Mute even if the screen said so. Yes I checked the option on Settings (vs Lock Rotation). I tried to rest, nada. Any ideas how this can be fixed. I have an iPad 2. Thanks

This may be a slight misunderstanding. The side button only mutes system sounds, such as incoming mail, notifications, etc. but it does not mute the sound of apps, such as iPod. To mute those, you would have to reduce the volume to zero.

It's really quite clever - it's so that you don't accidentally have, say, email arriving sounds going off unintentionally in the middle of meetings. You're unlikely to be playing music then (!) but you can't control quite so easily when incoming email will arrive. I have my iPad by my bed at night and use the mute button for exactly the same reason, I don't really want to be notified about incoming email in the early hours of the morning.
