Shortcut for temporarily disabling auto-correction...

Sometimes I find auto-correction helpful and sometimes it drives me crazy.
I'm doing a language course on Safari and it keeps translating my spellings back into English.
Is there any way of creating a desktop shortcut for turning it on and off, without having the hassle of going into Settings every time? Ideally, the icon would give some indication of its state...

Why not load the international keyboard of the language you are learning?

Après avoir choisir un autre clavier les corrigées sont aussi dans l'autre langue.
After having chosen another keyboard the corrections will also be in the other language.

I typed the French sentence without bothering to add the accents. The iPad did it for me automatically.

The world key on the keyboard toggles through the available keyboards. It also briefly shows which keyboard is active on the space bar.

J'ai appended cet sentence parce que mon message etait trop court. Vive le Franglais!
