My good lady and I have 1 home mac computer and each have an iPhone and an iPad each.
Does anybody know or if it's possible to share the home computer to utilise. At the moment we have separate iTunes accounts but it would be useful to share previous apps purchased buy the both of us.

Help.

Hello Emmet, welcome to the Forum. I've taken apart your original post:

1. "Does anybody know or if it's possible to share the home computer to utilise."

Answer: You can use one Mac to sync many devices, yours and your lady's. But after installing OS5 and 5.0.1, you will no longer need that machine to do your backups or upgrades. You might still need it to restore your devices. But post os5, a hard wired connection to a PC/MAC will no longer be required.

2. "At the moment we have separate iTunes accounts but it would be useful to share previous apps purchased buy the both of us."

Answer: Unfortnately, once an app has been purchased with one appleuserid, you cannot merge both userids to take advantage of using each other's apps. I had the same problem when I first got my iPad, I established [email protected] as my Apple ID. Then when I got Mobileme (a precursor to iCloud), I established a new Apple Id: [email protected]. All the apps that I bought with my first Appleid was still available to me, if I signed on with that id on my iPad. However, all the apps I've purchased using the second Apple id, was only available when I signed on using the second id. I talked to Apple support asking if there was a way to merge these two id's. They replied, very courteously, NO.

So if your good lady wants your app on her iPad, you wil have to give her your userid and password to get that app. If the app gets updated and she is logged on with her own id, she will not get any notifications that it is updated and availalble until she signs in using your id/password. This is Apple's way of restricting the use of its resources and apps to one single user.

This probably not an issue with free apps, as she can install her own version. But very restrictive with apps that have a price tag.
