Scratching noise skyping plus contacts can't hear me

When I try to Skype with my Grandaughter She can't hear me and ther's a terrible loud scratching sound we both can hear, I can see her and hear her. She can see me but that's all. I have never had this problem. I have ipad3, I have updated to iOS 8.1.1 help!!! Linda

Look at your settings in Privacy - Microphone: is Skype enabled there? If it isn't, this would be the reason that your contacts don't hear you.

Maybe removing the app and reinstalling it will help.

Make sure Skype is open nowhere else than the iPad when you use it. This could also cause problems.
