AppleInsider writes today that according to Chinese-language Website MyDrivers.com, Apple is set to release an iPad mini with a 7.85-inch IGZO display from Sharp. According to the anonymous sources, the new smaller version of the iPad will be as thin as the iPad 2, and will possibly have a longer battery life, although the translation of what the Website says is a little uncertain, according to AppleInsider. This new screen would be optimized to display 330 pixels per inch, and would be priced somewhere between $249 and $299. The article only refers to one model for this new mini iPad, the 8 GB model. AppleInsider notes that Apple is said to be targeting Google’s newly announced Nexus 7 tablet, as well as Amazon’s Kindle Fire. At 7.85 inches, the display would be slightly larger than either of those tablets, which have 7-inch displays. I really don’t have any doubt that an iPad mini is on the way, possibly for release in September or October. If Apple can keep the price down, then it will most likely leave any emerging rivals in the dust.
