Import it to iTunes and just sync it up to your iPad.

ITunes is the easiest route. Just drag into iTunes. Then when you sync, make sure you check that specific movie under the Movie tab. I use Handbrake to rip from DVD. The iPad format option works perfectly though I haven't been able to figure an easy way to rip the menu from the DVD but nota major hassle. When I've finished with the DVD on the iPad, I uncheck the movie on iTunes so ain't synch, it deletes from iPad to free up space, but I retain under iTunes just in case someone else in the family wants to watch on their iPad or Apple TV.
