Regularly running down battery-Experience

Did running-down the battery help you to recalibrate the battery meter?

Some say it works, some say it doesn't - running down the battery to re-calibrate the battery meter....
What is your experience?

Given that I've done this from day one, every other month or so, all I can report is that I've never had a problem with the battery's reported level. So it either works, or it's not necessary. I suspect early symptoms of battery mis-calibration would be too subtle to be noticed in normal use. Who's going to notice that the battery should read 12% instead of 10%?
