Question with wifi booster.

Hi guys. New here. Am researching for a friend living in country. I installed a modem and wifi router about 1/4 mile from their house. They can get about 3M on their IMac and can get Netflix streaming on TV but zilch signal on iPhone and iPad 2. I found a booster (bearextender) on the web that claims to boost signal on the desktop to reach the I device. Anyone familiar with this technology? Thanks
