Much more likely to be October. Beta 7 just shipped with an October 20th expiration date. It still has bugs.

It will likely debut with the iPhone 5 around the end of September. Even if it is not 100% ready, they can issue updates quickly.

A few days before the next iPhone launches. My guess would be early october ( end of September is possible)

If there is a next beta then the GM will not be seeded for 2 weeks after.

I wonder if there's a particular order in which the iOS 5 updates will be sent out. Obviously we won't all get it the same day probably.. or will we?? I know with Android (I have an Android phone, bleh) it came out in waves. I'll wait as long as it takes. I'm excited for the changes!

Yes, I agree that no matter what's released when, it is definitely going to be an interesting period. I can't recall a time quite as exciting. :)

With ios it is not a push like. Android.
I'm not sure how iTunes will handle it this time since ota will be introduced but with each previous ios update it was announced as available,I went to iTunes and got it.

iOS 5 will not be available OTA , we will need to sync with iTunes and download it there

The update to iOS 4 will work just like very prior update. It will show up in iTunes as an available update when you sync your phone. You download and install just like any other update.

There will be a large number of early adopters who will jump on it as soon as it's available. The majority of all users will update when they are notified by iTunes it's available, tied to a sync, and this will be over several weeks.

It is likely that 30% or more will never update.... or will not update until they are forced to in order to run a specific app or get a specific feature.

We still see a large number of registrations running iOS 3.n

I would not bet on iOS 5 being available before the iPhone 5 ships however. There is no reason that has to happen. It should be available around the same tome, and it's doubtful the iPhone 5 would ship without it, but bit would not have to be available to the rest of us until later...

What's more interesting that over the air is delta updates. No more having to download a huge update for several hours on a slow connection. iOS 5 updates will be as small as several hundred bytes to patch a security hole or add new functionality.

You can expect to see delta updates for Apps as well soon.

Hmm...and this will definately make a jailbreak far more easily "patched" by apple. More work for the developers of JB.

I don't have any jail broken devices, but reading through the list of improvements coming with iOs 5 it looks like Apple is making a lot of potential available that has hitherto only been available to the "underworld".

I don't think Apple will stifle the JB world too much. It looks like a breeding ground for ideas that would cost Apple's R&D department a small fortune.
