Is there a better one with more keys that replaces the iOS one, would be nice to have a tab bar, etc...

Appreciate your app saviness!

You can use a wireless keyboard. I use the Apple Bluetooth wireless keyboard.

As the previous poster suggested, a Bluetooth keyboard gives you a full-size keyboard with all the keys you're used to - including tab and cursor. For the iPad1 there's the keyboard dock too, which has dedicated keyboard keys for Home and Volume etc.

I use a folding Bluetooth keyboard, which is very convenient and comes with a nice faux leather case. Look in Amazon for them, they're specially made for the iPhone and iPad.

As far as on-screen keyboards are concerned there are none that work with all the apps that the iPad supports. Sure, there are specialised on-screen keyboards that work *within* dedicated apps, but they won't work outside the app because of the restrictions imposed by iOS, the iPad's operating system.

If I didn't have my Zagg mate I'd be all over the case/keyboard you have. I kinda wish I'd have seen it first but I'm really digging my Zagg mate. It's not like I'm stuck with the onscreen one only.
I got mitypewriter app thinking it was another keyboard and you're right,it works for that app only and can basically be used for note saving and email sending only. It's cool and all but it isn't what I thought it was,iow I can't use it to write this post.

I installed "iAwriter" yesterday ... slick text writer that adds an additional punctuation row of keys over the virtual keyboad.

I an app can do that, I would think a tab key could/should be added.

I vote for a tab key also.

Great program, thanks for your suggestion! I would like tab key too, but I love arrows since my fingers are big and I hate doing extra steps to place cursor.

Is there any keyboard application that would over ride the IPAD's built in keyboard that would work in all applications and not just in one particular application?

No - this is not possible. The iPad's operating system, iOS, provides the API (application programming interface) for an app to access the keyboard. That API links in iOS to the keyboard provided by Apple. There is no way that a third party app could 'intercept' that API and provide access to an alternate keyboard because that API is controlled by iOS.

what if an app provided a keyboard that would add itself to the list of "international" keyboards in the ios settings. then the keyboard wouldn't have to intercept anything but would rather piggyback onto the existing keyboard options
